Weekly Overview of Assignments In Reading we will continue studying mysteries! Last week we began reading our new class novel, Sammy Keyes and the Hotel Thief. This week students will study and identify elements of mysteries as we read our class novel and the new Tales of Tommy True weekly mystery story. During small group reading students will focus on making inferences they read. In Writing we will begin our next unit- Responding to a Prompt. Students will read two articles about animals in their natural habitats. They will write an essay comparing and contrasting the key details in the articles, and identify ways endangered animals can be helped. In Math students will begin Unit 6- Division and Angles. This week students will find a rule for solving extended division facts, and solve division number stories using familiar multiples. They will also explore area and perimeter by finding missing side lengths of rectangles. In Science we will continue learning about Energy, Motion, & Electricity. Students explore how energy can be stored as height. In Social Studies we will read and acknowledge influential women, marking the beginning of Women's History Month! Homework

Weekly Overview of Assignments In Reading we will continue our Mystery Unit! This week students will continue studying and identifying foreshadowing and flashbacks as we read. The class will read a new fictional mystery, and identify flashbacks as they read. During small group reading students will focus on summarizing what they read. In Writing, students will continue writing their next mystery story. Students will have the week to draft, revise and publish their stories. The class will also have the opportunity to share their stories during the Author's Chair at the end of the week. In Math students will finish studying Unit 5- Fraction and Mixed Number Computation; Measurement. In the last lesson students review line symmetry and explore properties of symmetric shapes. We will spend the rest of the week reviewing concepts learned and studied throughout the unit. Students will take the Unit 5 Assessment at the end of the week. This week in Science we will begin learning about Energy, Motion, & Electricity. Students will explore how energy makes things go, from powering vehicles to moving one’s body. In addition, throughout the week we will continue studying influential African Americans in Social Studies! Homework

Hope everyone is having a nice and warm Valentine’s/Presidents’ Day Weekend! Notes and Reminders:
Weekly Overview of Assignments In Reading we will continue our Mystery Unit! This week students will learn about foreshadowing and flashbacks. The class will read a new fictional mystery, and identify foreshadowing as they read. During small group reading students will focus on making observations and inferences. In Writing, students will have an opportunity to share their Narrative Mysteries Stories. The class will also begin writing their next mystery story. This week students will create characters, a plot, and write a luring lead to their next story! In Math students will continue studying Unit 5- Fraction and Mixed Number Computation; Measurement. Students will continue working with fractions and record data on a line plot and answer questions regarding the data. The class will also explore rotation iteration of measurement units, and angle measures. This week in Science we will continue studying sound and vibration. Students will learn more about sound waves and wavelengths. In addition, throughout the week we will study influential African Americans in Social Studies! Homework

This week the class will read and complete paired activities from the mystery, Bigfoot. During small group reading students will focus on identifying the theme as they read. During Writing, students will continue working on their Narrative Mysteries. This week students will use their prewriting activities to begin writing their mystery stories. In Math students will continue studying Unit 5- Fraction and Mixed Number Computation; Measurement. Students will add unlike fractions with tenths and hundredths. They will also begin subtracting fractions and mixed numbers. This week in Science we will continue studying sound and vibration. Students explore the role that air plays in enabling a sound vibration to travel by thinking about what would happen if we scream in outer space. The class will also read and discuss current events.
