Mrs. Eleni Koliopoulos
Hello 4th Grade Students and Families,
I hope everyone had a nice and enjoyable weekend! I want to thank you all again for your continued support as we moved assignments onto google classroom. I will continue to post this weekly overview, but will also post a daily checklist/schedule on google classroom students can follow to finish assignments. Of course, you can always make a schedule that works for your family. Students should be working a total 2-3 hours a day on academic work. This week we will begin daily class meetings each day at 10:00 am. These are optional, but students are encouraged to join. It will be a time for us all to connect. I plan on reviewing and explaining assignments, teaching lessons, and allowing students opportunities to interact and connect with each other. The link to the class meeting will be posted each morning on google classroom. Below is an outline of this week's assignments for Reading, Math, and Science! Reading Assignments/ Information This week’s focus in reading will be Text Structure- Problem and Solution. Authors organize their text in a way that is helpful for their readers. The way authors choose to organize their text is called Text Structure. A Problem is what goes wrong, an issue, an obstacle. The Solution is how the problem is fixed or solved. In this week's reading, the text includes information about a problem and possible solutions. Weekly reading activities listed below;
Math Assignments/ Information Students should be practicing math 20-30 minutes a day. They can work on Khan Academy Lessons or on the ¨PDF Math Activities¨ posted in google classroom. This week in math students will continue multiplying fractions. They will also be introduced to multiplying mixed numbers by fractions. In addition, students will practice division and solve division number stories involving unit conversions and measurements. Science Assignments/ Information Each week I will post three science activities. I am hoping students will be able to work about 20 minutes a day on science assignments. Each week students will receive an Invention Convention assignment, a Mystery Science assignment, and a Super Science reading. They should prioritize their time in the following order;

Thank you for your patience regarding remote learning in fourth grade at Ray. We are doing our best to help all families implement a structure that will work well specifically for you. As you know, Thursday is the last day of Quarter 3. Thank you so much to the students that have turned in completed work to the teacher over the last four weeks. Students will receive both a reading and math grade for the past week. We will use our common rubric to grade student work: ★ Student has shown convincing evidence of understanding. Answer is accurate and written in full detail. The student has met expectations of the task presented. Calculation: 10/10 ✔+ Student has shown some convincing evidence of understanding. The work may contain a minor error. Answer is accurate to answer the task and/or thinking shown. Calculation: 9/10 ✔ Student has shown some evidence of understanding. The answer demonstrates some understanding of the presented task. May contain minor errors or a major error. Calculation: 8/10 ✔- Student has attempted to solve the task. Answer is incorrect. Calculation: 7/10 ⊘ No attempt made to solve the task. There is just an answer. Please email your child’s homeroom teacher before Thursday at 5PM with any work he or she has completed over the last four weeks. We will also review student work on IXL, Khan Academy, and Read Theory. Because all of this work was enrichment, students will receive an excused mark for any work not turned in to the teacher. As the Illinois State Board of Education has stated, no grade can be lower than it was on Monday, March 16th. We welcome all questions as we try to work together during this unprecedented time. More information about fourth quarter grading will be available next week. Stay healthy and safe, The Fourth Grade Team Good Morning 4th Grade Students and Families,
I hope everyone had a nice spring break, and is continuing to stay healthy and safe. This weekly overview has a lot of information. I will keep this type of weekly format as our remote learning continues so there won’t be an overload of information each week. I know this will be a bit different than our normal learning environment, but know I am here to answer questions, support and guide you along the way! Technology Update- Thank you to the families who have reached out requesting technology. I have let our administration know. Please do what you have access to and what you can. 4/13- 4/17 Reading Assignments/ Information This week’s focus in reading will be to write an effective summary about what you read. Please try to do this with everything you are reading. A summary retells the main events of a story in a shorter version. Before summarizing, think about the important story elements; characters, setting, and plot. Remember not to include your opinion in the summary. Please complete the reading activities listed below;

I just wanted to check in with everyone and see how you’re doing. Like all of you, I’ve been quarantined in my apartment keeping myself busy with school assignments, trying to get involved with new hobbies and taking lots of walks. I certainly miss coming to Ray to see and teach all of you. As you continue to use the resources Ms. Lemberis has provided you, don’t hesitate to reach out to me if you ever need help with your work or someone to talk to in general! I hope that everyone is staying safe and healthy during this unprecedented time. As you know remote learning officially begins on Monday, April 13th. There are a few details that I want you to be aware of to help your child do his or her best. Every Monday, a weekly overview will be posted on both my blog and sent through Class Dojo. Students should be prepared to do academic work for about two-three hours each day. Please feel free to create a schedule that is best for your family. This is a learning process for all of us. I know that we will all do our best to help children learn. I will be available each day for questions and help. Although, I will check emails and dojo messages outside of this time, I have created a daily communication schedule where your questions will be answered during the designated times below;
Thank you to everyone who has been using IXL. Unfortunately, the subscription expires soon. Read Theory and Khan Academy are two programs that we will start using on Monday. You will receive information regarding your child's username and password for each site in the weekly overview. If your child needs a device for the purpose of learning, please let me know. I have received a few requests, and have let Ray know. I am not sure when/how students will receive the devices, but as soon as I know I will let you know as well. Please feel free to contact me with any questions, comments, or concerns. Stay safe, healthy and happy! Happy Friday Students and Families!
I hope you all had a great week, and are continuing to stay safe, healthy and happy! Next week is your Spring Break! Enjoy the week- you’ve earned it. I thought it would be fun to take a trip around the country/world to visit some museums and national parks-virtually of course! You can access information about visiting museums and parks if you click on the links below;
