Hello Room 209 Students and Families,
Hope that everyone is having a wonderful weekend. Notes and Reminders:
Weekly Overview of Assignments This week in Reading we will focus on identifying the theme of our readings. Students will identify the theme of stories read in guided reading groups and whole group instruction. We will continue reading our class novel, The Whipping Boy. In addition, the class will review activities in their Digital Reading Notebooks. This week in writing students will finish publishing their first narrative stories. Students can do this through google classroom, or hand write their published story. If students hand write their stories a copy must be emailed to me for credit. After students publish their writing, we will review how to add dialogue to their stories. Then students will choose another memorable event and begin writing their second story! In Math we will continue working on Unit 1- Place Value; Multidigit Addition and Subtraction. Students will be introduced to the traditional subtraction method. We will also convert between yards, feet, and inches. Lastly, students will explore properties of points, line segments, lines, rays, angles, triangles, and quadrilaterals. We will begin Social Studies instruction this week by introducing students to the many National Parks in the United States. Students will study landform features found in our country’s national parks, and each student will pick a National Park to research! Students can use the website https://www.nationalparks.org/explore-parks/all-parks, or check out books from their neighborhood library to research their National Parks. During the weeks social studies instruction takes place, Thursday and Friday will be designated as current events. Students will be presented articles from newsela.com, CNN 10, and dogonews.com. My name is Eleni Lemberis, and I am looking forward to a fantastic year with you all! Beginning this year remotely, has made it challenging and very different from years past. I look forward to working together to make this year full of learning and fun, while fulfilling the needs of our students. I am so fortunate to have a student intern from Michigan State this year! Zoë Graflund will be co-teaching with me throughout the school year! Ms. Graflund recently graduated from Michigan State University in May 2020, with degrees in both Elementary Education and Child Development. She is very excited to begin her student teaching this year and hopes to create meaningful relationships and learn from our students. By tomorrow (Saturday 9/5) all students should receive an invite to our google classroom. The class code is cu6fnn7. Students can use their cps emails to join if they do not receive an invite by tomorrow. We will be using the google classroom platform for all of our classes together! This week we will spend a lot of time getting to know each other, reviewing classroom/school-wide expectations, and learning about what to expect in 4th grade. The google meet link for the first day of school is https://meet.google.com/tiw-obkd-efm. Notes and Reminders:
