Weekly Overview of Assignments In reading we will continue our biography unit. The class will read and learn about influential people of personal interest. Our weekly focus will be to write a detailed summary as we read. In writing we will continue opinion writing. Students will choose whether there should be more breaks throughout the school year. Students will identify elements of Opinion/Argumentative Writing in the text, and write a detailed essay about their opinion. In Math we will begin studying Unit 4- Multi-Digit Multiplication . In this week’s lessons, students find a rule for solving multiplication problems involving multiples of 10, make estimates to solve problems, and solve multiplication problems by partitioning rectangles. In Science the class will continue studying the human body, and how their eyes work. We will delve further into the workings of the eye, exploring the function of their iris and pupil. In Social Studies the class will begin studying the Southwest Region. Homework

Just 5 more school days until our winter break...I cannot believe how fast the first part of the year has gone. This coming week will be filled with fun and festive learning activities! Ray's Winter Wonderfest Activities for next week:

Weekly Overview of Assignments In reading we will continue our biography unit. The class will read and learn about influential people of personal interest. Our weekly focus will be to make inferences as we read. We finished our class novel, Out of My Mind! Students will also complete the culminating end of the book activities. In writing we will continue opinion writing. Students will choose whether there should be more breaks throughout the school year. Students will identify elements of Opinion/Argumentative Writing in the text, and write a detailed essay about their opinion. In Math we will finish studying Unit 3- Fractions and Decimals. In this week’s lessons, students will continue working with decimals through the hundredths place. We will convert from centimeters to millimeters, and compare decimals using <, >, and = signs. Students will take the Unit 3 Assessment on Thursday (12/16). In Science the class will continue studying the human body, and how their eyes work. We will learn and figure out some of the causes of vision problems. In Social Studies the class will finish studying the geography of the West Region! When we return from Winter Break, we will begin studying the Southwest Region. Homework

Weekly Overview of Assignments In reading this week, we will begin our biography unit! The class will read and learn about Katherine Johnson this week. Students will focus on identifying cause and effect relationships as they read. We will also finish reading our class novel, Out of My Mind, students will complete reading comprehension activities paired with the book. In writing we will continue opinion writing. The class will read a debate article about whether or not there are too many holidays (we did not get to it this week). Students will identify elements of Opinion/Argumentative Writing in the text, and use the article to think about what side they would take. In Math we will continue studying Unit 3- Fractions and Decimals. In this week’s lessons, students model decimals with base-10 blocks, read and write decimals to the hundredths, and explore decimals in the context of measurement. In Science the class will continue our unit on the human body. In this week’s lesson, students discover the basics of how their eyes work, and figure out some of the causes of vision problems. In the activity, Eye Model, students develop a working model of a human eye. In Social Studies the class will continue studying the geography of the West Region! Homework
