12/14 Weekly Overview of Assignments In Reading students will choose and read a biography of their choice. Students will create a timeline including important events about that person. Students will have the week to work on the timeline and present their timelines during reading class at the end of the week. Students will continue reading and studying biographies in their guided reading groups. In Writing students will continue writing opinion essays! This week students will use the article, “Should kids have to go to school on a snow day?,” to write an essay about their opinion on the topic. This week in Math we will begin Unit 4- Multidigit Multiplication. Students will find a rule for solving multiplication problems involving multiples of 10, make estimates and evaluate reasonableness of their answers, and solve multiplication problems by partitioning rectangles. This week students will rotate through some fun mystery science mini lessons and read current events! They will also complete fun and festive activities during Science and Social Studies time. Students will have the week to work on the timeline and present their timelines during reading class at the end of the week. Students will continue reading and studying biographies in their guided reading groups. In Writing students will continue writing opinion essays! This week students will use the article, “Should Cars be Banned in Cities?,” to write an essay about their opinion on the topic. This week in Math we will finish studying and review Unit 3- Fractions and Decimals. During the last lesson students compare decimals using <, >, and =. The class will spend the rest of the week reviewing concepts learned throughout the Unit. Students will take the Unit 3 Assessment on Friday. This week in Science, students will discover the basics of how their eyes work, and figure out some of the causes of vision problems. In the activity, Eye Model, students will see a developed working model of a human eye. A magnifying lens is used as a model of the cornea to explore how the structure of this lens is related to the function of our eyes. Homework
