Mrs. Eleni Koliopoulos
Hello Room 209 Students and Families,
I hope everyone had a nice and restful weekend! Notes and Reminders:
Weekly Overview of Assignments This week in Reading we will continue reading our novel, Out of My Mind. This week the class will focus on character traits; what characters say, do and think. We will do this with characters from Out of My Mind, as well as during guided reading groups. This week in Writing students will continue Responding to a Prompt. This week, the class will read the text “A Once-in-a-lifetime Experience.” This story tells the reader about a character’s first camping trip. Students will write a journal entry about the camping trip, as if they were there. Journal entries should include information about how the characters respond to the events in the story. In Math we will continue working on Unit 2- Multiplication and Geometry. We will begin the week by reviewing factors and multiples. Throughout the week, students will create, interpret, and solve number stories involving multiplicative comparisons. Lastly, we will classify triangles and quadrilaterals by their properties. This week we will rotate back to Science! Students will learn more about volcanoes, specifically why some volcanoes explode while others do not. We will investigate how differences in lava types explain differences in the shape and eruption patterns among volcanoes! Homework
Thank you all for your continued support- it is so appreciated! Sincerely yours, Ms. Lemberis and Ms.Graflund

Hello Room 209 Students and Families,
I hope everyone is doing well. Notes and Reminders:
Weekly Overview of Assignments This week in Reading we will begin our next class novel, Out of My Mind, by Sharon Draper! This is a wonderful book we will be working with over the next several weeks. The class will review the difference between theme and main idea. Students will practice identifying the theme and main idea during guided reading this week. This week in Writing students will continue Responding to a Prompt. This week, the class will read the text “Those Wacky Shoes.” In "Those Wacky Shoes," a girl has to outsmart a pair of shoes. Students will be asked to think about the details the author uses to create the characters, setting and events. Students will also begin responding to a daily journal prompt. In Math we will continue working on Unit 2- Multiplication and Geometry. This week, students will review that a whole number is a multiple of each of its factors, and classify numbers as prime and composite. Students use multiplication reasoning to make predictions based on information in an open response problem and make mathematical arguments to support their predictions. In addition, students will convert units of time to smaller units of time and solve number stories involving time. This week in Social Studies, students will present their National Park Brochures brochures/advertisements beginning on Monday 10/19. The class will also read and study current events and news! We will rotate back to Science next week. Homework

If you are able, please join us tomorrow evening for Open House!
Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow, Ms. Lemberis and Ms. Graflund Hello Room 209 Students and Families,
I hope everyone has a great long weekend! Notes and Reminders:
Weekly Overview of Assignments Last week in Reading we finished our class novel, The Whipping Boy! This week students will make a book cover culminating all of the concepts we have studied in class; main idea, theme, character traits, summarizing and making inferences. Guided reading groups will continue making inferences as they read. This week in Writing students will have an opportunity to share their narratives with the class. We will also begin our next writing unit (which we did not get to last week); Responding to a Prompt. We will read a text as a class, and students will respond from a different character’s point of view. In Math we will begin working on Unit 2- Place Value; Multiplication and Geometry. Students will review rectangular arrays and explore patterns in square numbers. The class will also find the area of rectangles. In addition, we will work with factor pairs and arrays to solve problems. Students should have finished their National Park research this past week. Students will take their research and create a brochure/advertisement persuading people to visit the National Park they chose. Students’ brochures/advertisements should be done during asynchronous learning and are due Monday, October 19th. An assignment attached with a rubric has been posted on google classroom. Students will present their brochure/advertisement in class the week of October 19th. This week in Social Studies our class will study the country of Belize for Hispanic Heritage Month. Each classroom selected a country in Central/South America to study, and our class selected Belize! Each class will study the origin of the flag colors, the country’s location, common foods, music, population, and native animals. All the classroom projects will be combined for a culminating activity! In addition to current events, students will learn about the age of the earth and the largest trees in the world. Homework

Hope everyone is doing well, and had a nice weekend! Notes and Reminders:
Weekly Overview of Assignments This week in Reading we will focus on making inferences as we read. Students will make inferences and support their responses with evidence from the text as we read stories during guided reading and whole group instruction. We will continue reading our class novel, The Whipping Boy. This week in writing students will publish their second narrative stories. Students can do this through google classroom, or hand-write their published story. If students hand-write their stories a copy must be emailed to me for credit. We will also begin our next writing unit; Responding to a Prompt. This week we will read a text as a class, and students will respond from a different character’s point of view. In Math we will finish working on Unit 1- Place Value; Multidigit Addition and Subtraction. We will end the unit by finding the perimeter of rectangles and squares. The class will also review concepts learned throughout the unit. Students will take a unit assessment at the end of the week. In Social Studies will continue to learn about National Parks and the landforms that are found around the United States. Students will begin the week watching a video highlighting twenty-five National Parks. While they are watching the video, they will identify three interesting facts or sights that they enjoyed while viewing the video. On Tuesday, they will review different landforms. The fourth graders will then draw a picture of themselves at the landform. National Park outlines are due on Wednesday. The students will also be introduced to a project where they will create a brochure persuading people to come to the National Park that they researched.Thursday and Friday will study current events! Homework
