Happy Friday Room 209 Students and Families, I hope everyone is having a nice week :). Notes and Reminders:
In Reading we will continue reading real-life mysteries! In this week’s mystery, The Rosewell Incident, students will focus on summarizing what they read. We will also continue reading and studying the theme and main ideas of our class novel, Wonder. In Writing we will begin our persuasive writing unit! We will begin the week by reviewing elements of persuasive writing. Each student will choose a persuasive writing topic to write about. Students will begin prewriting by completing a graphic organizer, then using the graphic organizer to begin writing their essays! In Math we will continue studying Unit 6 (Division and Angles). In this week’s lessons students will solve division number stories using familiar multiples, they will learn and use partial-quotients to solve division problems, and solve problems converting tons to pounds and pounds to ounces. In Science the class will learn more about the human body! This week students will learn about the circulatory system and cardiovascular system. In Social Studies the class will continue studying the Midwest region of the United States. At the end of the week, students will be assessed on the Midwest states and capitals. We will also continue our Women’s History Month Study. Homework

Weekly Overview of Assignments As mentioned above, students will be taking the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) this week. Students will be tested during their ELA and Math Blocks, so their assignments will be limited this week. In reading we will continue reading and working with our class novel, Wonder. In writing students will publish and share their stories. In math, we will review the first couple lessons from Unit 6 (Division and Angles), and practice division. In Science the class will learn more about the human body! This week students will learn about the circulatory system and cardiovascular system. In Social Studies the class will continue studying the Midwest region of the United States. We will also continue our Women’s History Month Study! Homework

Weekly Overview of Assignments In reading we will continue reading real-life mysteries! In this week’s mystery, The Bermuda Triangle, students will focus on making inferences as they read. We will also begin reading our new class novel, Wonder. In writing students will continue writing their very own mystery stories! Students will create characters, choose a setting, and create a plot for their stories. This week students will publish and share their stories. Last week we did not get to finish all of Unit 5, so the test was postponed. This week, we will review the entire unit and take the Unit 5 Assessment on Tuesday. We will start Unit 6 (Division and Angles), and students will find rules for solving extended division facts in this week’s lessons. In Science the class will learn more about the human body! This week students will learn about the nutrition system and respiratory system. In Social Studies the class will continue studying the Midwest region of the United States. We will also continue our Women’s History Month Study! Homework

Weekly Overview of Assignments In reading we will begin reading real-life mysteries! In this week’s mystery, The Loch Ness Monster, students will focus on identifying the main idea and supporting details as they read. We will also finish reading our class novel, The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind. Students will complete culminating activities paired with the book. In writing students will begin writing their very own mystery stories! Students will create characters, choose a setting, and create a plot for their stories. This week students will prewrite and draft their stories. In Math we will finish Unit 5 (Fraction and Mixed-Number Computation; Measurement). In this week’s lessons students will continue to explore rotation iteration of measurement units and angle measurements, review line symmetry and explore properties of symmetric shapes, and solve multistep multiplication number stories. We will review the entire unit and take the Unit 5 Assessment on Friday. In Science the class will learn more about the human body! This week students will learn about the muscular and digestive systems and the nutrition and respiratory systems. In Social Studies the class will continue studying the Midwest region of the United States. We will also begin our Women’s History Month Study! Homework
