Mrs. Eleni Koliopoulos
Hello Room 209 Students and Families,
As you may have heard, a few more classrooms at Ray have gone remote this week due to positive COVID-19 cases. Luckily our classroom is still doing well :). The students in our class really do a wonderful job keeping their masks on, and practice social distancing. They continue to impress me:). I hope cases continue to go down, and we all stay healthy and safe. Let me know if you have any concerns or questions. Notes and Reminders:
Weekly Overview of Assignments This quarter we will begin working in reading groups. Throughout the week students follow a schedule with their group including; listening to reading, reading to self, writing about their reading, completing vocabulary work, and reading in guided reading groups (with the teacher). This week we will focus on cause and effect. We will, of course, continue reading our class novel, Out of My Mind, students will complete reading comprehension activities paired with the book. In writing we will continue opinion writing. The class will read a debate article about whether or not social media is good for society. Students will identify elements of Opinion/Argumentative Writing in the text, and use the article to think about what side they would take. In Math we will continue studying Unit 3- Fractions and Decimals. In this week’s lessons, students will use a length or number-line model to recognize or generate equivalent fractions. They will also generalize their work with visual fraction models to explain why a fraction is equivalent to another. In Science the class will continue with the Unit on the Birth of Rocks. In this week’s lesson, students will learn about the types, causes, and dangers of landslides. In the activity, Slide City, students are faced with the engineering problems of protecting a house from a landslide and preventing a landslide from happening. They use a brainstorming technique to design creative solutions. In Social Studies the class will study the five themes of geography; Location, Place, Human-Environment Interaction, Movement, Regions. Homework
Thank you all for your continued support- it is so appreciated! Please email me with any questions, comments, or concerns at [email protected]. Sincerely yours, Ms. Lemberis
