Mrs. Eleni Koliopoulos
Hello Room 209 Students and Families,
Notes and Reminders:
This week in Reading students will review using context clues and prefixes/suffixes to define challenging vocabulary. We will focus on vocabulary while reading Out of My Mind and during small groups. We will also start our biography unit! Students will begin reading biographies in their guided reading groups. In Writing we will begin Opinion Writing! The class will begin the week by reviewing parts of opinion writing. Students will use the article, “Should the Voting Age Be Lowered,” to write an opinion piece about whether or not the voting age should be lowered. This week in Math we will begin Unit 3- Fractions and Decimals. Students will extend their understanding of fraction equivalence by solving number stories involving equally shared quantities. We will use an area and number-line model to recognize, generate, and explain equivalent fractions. In Science students will learn about the types, causes, and dangers of landslides. Students will complete an activity where they are faced with the engineering problems of protecting a house from a landslide and preventing a landslide from happening. Homework
Thank you all for your continued support- it is so appreciated! Please email me with any questions, comments, or concerns at [email protected]. Sincerely yours, Ms. Lemberis and Ms.Graflund
