Mrs. Eleni Koliopoulos
Hello Room 209 Students and Families,
I hope everyone has a great long weekend! Notes and Reminders:
Weekly Overview of Assignments Last week in Reading we finished our class novel, The Whipping Boy! This week students will make a book cover culminating all of the concepts we have studied in class; main idea, theme, character traits, summarizing and making inferences. Guided reading groups will continue making inferences as they read. This week in Writing students will have an opportunity to share their narratives with the class. We will also begin our next writing unit (which we did not get to last week); Responding to a Prompt. We will read a text as a class, and students will respond from a different character’s point of view. In Math we will begin working on Unit 2- Place Value; Multiplication and Geometry. Students will review rectangular arrays and explore patterns in square numbers. The class will also find the area of rectangles. In addition, we will work with factor pairs and arrays to solve problems. Students should have finished their National Park research this past week. Students will take their research and create a brochure/advertisement persuading people to visit the National Park they chose. Students’ brochures/advertisements should be done during asynchronous learning and are due Monday, October 19th. An assignment attached with a rubric has been posted on google classroom. Students will present their brochure/advertisement in class the week of October 19th. This week in Social Studies our class will study the country of Belize for Hispanic Heritage Month. Each classroom selected a country in Central/South America to study, and our class selected Belize! Each class will study the origin of the flag colors, the country’s location, common foods, music, population, and native animals. All the classroom projects will be combined for a culminating activity! In addition to current events, students will learn about the age of the earth and the largest trees in the world. Homework
Thank you all for your continued support- it is so appreciated! Please email me with any questions, comments, or concerns at [email protected]. Sincerely yours, Ms. Lemberis and Ms.Graflund
