Mrs. Eleni Koliopoulos
Hello Room 209 Students and Families, I hope you all had a great weekend. I am excited to see everyone on Monday, we have a lot of exciting activities planned this week! Notes and Reminders:
4th Grade Schedule
*2-3:45 - Asynchronous work Students should be independent reading, working on Khan Academy, and finishing work. If a fourth grader needs extra work during this time, please let me know. I would be very happy to give extra work. Weekly Overview of Assignments This week in Reading students will be introduced to their own Digital Reading Notebooks! Students will complete activities in their Digital Reading Notebooks, which will give us opportunities to learn more about ourselves as readers. In addition, we will begin reading our class novel, The Whipping Boy. Prior to reading students will make predictions, and review Main Idea. Students will also meet in groups and complete a short reading assignment identifying the main idea. In Writing, the class will review different types of writing and the 5 Step Writing Process (Prewriting, Drafting, Editing, Revising, Publishing). Students will begin prewriting and drafting their first narrative this week! In Math we will begin Unit 1- Place Value; Multidigit Addition and Subtraction. Students will work with place value in whole numbers through the hundred-thousands, record numbers in expanded form and compare numbers through the hundred-thousands, and learn procedures for rounding numbers through hundred-thousands. In Science, we will begin our Unit on Land Formation. Students will identify what they know and want to learn about rocks, the birth of rocks, and land formations. We will explore the past and present pattern of where volcanoes exist on the earth. The class will watch volcano locations plotted on a world map and look for patterns. Students will analyze these maps to discover that volcanoes form a “Ring of Fire” around the Pacific Ocean. Thank you all for a wonderful first week back to school! Your continued support is so appreciated! Please email me with any questions, comments, or concerns at [email protected]. Sincerely yours, Ms. Lemberis and Ms.Graflund
