Sometimes science or social studies will be longer than a half an hour. Sometimes the teacher will need to touch base with students. We will communicate with students and families. *2-3:45 - Asynchronous work Students should be independent reading, working on Khan Academy, and finishing work. If a fourth grader needs extra work during this time, please let me know. I would be very happy to give extra work. Weekly Overview of Assignments In Reading the class will continue reading our class novel, The Whipping Boy, and learn how to write an effective summary of what they read. Students will also meet in guided reading groups and work on summarizing as they read. In addition, students will complete activities in their Digital Reading Notebooks. The activities will give us opportunities to learn more about ourselves as readers Last week in writing students developed a list of memorable events from their lives, and chose a memory they want to use to write their first narrative. This week, students will continue drafting their narratives. Students' stories should include a clear beginning, middle and end. In Math we will continue working on Unit 1- Place Value; Multidigit Addition and Subtraction. Students explore different ways to estimate. The class will be introduced/review the traditional addition method, and practice solving multi-step number stories involving addition and subtraction. In Science, students will explore how solid rock breaks apart into smaller pieces through a process called weathering (including root-wedging and ice-wedging).The class will watch an activity, where sugar cubes are used as a model for rocks. This activity will help students understand the process of weathering and how this process explains why rocks at the tops of mountains are jagged, while those at the bottom are rounded. Homework
Thank you all for your continued support- it is so appreciated! Please email me with any questions, comments, or concerns at [email protected]. Sincerely yours, Ms. Lemberis and Ms.Graflund
